The Cloud on Queens Wharf will help us showcase New Zealand creativity and innovation, and celebrate the Rugby World Cup 2011.

Sectors across the economy are being encouraged to showcase the best of New Zealand to the 85,000 international visitors and 2,000 media coming here for the Rugby World Cup. Food, wine, fashion, marine, aviation, forestry, seafood and aquaculture, agritech and ICT are among those sectors organising significant events and activities throughout the tournament.

Queens Wharf, and the wider Auckland waterfront, will be used as a national centre for showcasing everything that New Zealand does well – for the whole six weeks of the tournament, and particularly during finals week when the world’s eyes are on Auckland.

The Cloud will host large-scale events such as a New Zealand food and beverage show, as well as select events like fashion shows, textiles and agritech displays and wine tastings.

Queens Wharf will also be a huge draw card for visitors to Auckland with live bands, performances, international cultural days, and the official fanzone to watch the rugby.

The Cloud will be a hub of activity, with a full programme of events scheduled for the 45 days of the tournament. The Cloud can be split into four segments, allowing a range of showcase and festival events to happen at the same time, and the fan zone to be scaled up or down according to demand. The international media lounge in the mezzanine floor will provide a great venue for sports and sector media to base themselves between matches and to use the beautiful Waitemata harbour as a backdrop for televised reports.

The Cloud and mezzanine will also be used for special VIP functions and events, including hosting delegates of the Pacific Island Leaders Forum being held in Auckland in the week before the Rugby World Cup. A Tourism New Zealand i-Site in the Cloud will point visitors towards Auckland tourist attractions, as well as tourism opportunities throughout the country.
