The kea, as described by the Auckland Zoo is a cheeky, inquisitive nature of the world’s only mountain parrot is well-known throughout New Zealand. Highly intelligent and social, they learn from their parents and from experience.

They love the challenge of taking things apart, which can be a problem if they take a liking to your car or motorbike! Hence the need for a strong mesh enclosure to keep this cheeky bird in check.  Fabric Structures were proud to be involved in the design, fabrication, and installation of the heavy-duty mesh required.

The Kea Enclosure is part of Whenua Waotū/The High Country, which gives visitors the chance to come face-to-face with the South Island’s most famous resident, the kea. The streams throughout this habitat are also the ideal home for whio.

Encompassing one fifth of the Zoo, Te Wao Nui is home to over 100 native plant species of Aotearoa and around 60 different animal species. From the wild and rugged high country, picturesque alpines, wetlands and coast to dense night forests featuring our kiwi habitat – it’s truly an unforgettable experience.
