Wildbase Recovery Centre was the initiative of Palmerston North City Council. In 2013 the proposal of an aviary complex called WildBase Recovery was commenced. Designed to house birds recovering from treatment at the nearby Massey University WildBase veterinary hospital, the aviary complex would also allow some public viewing of these and other native birds.  A company called Studio Hanson Roberts, based in the USA and known for their habitat design both within New Zealand and world-wide, headed landscape and aviary design, but were interested in using local materials and know-how where possible when it came to construction.  Palmerston North City Council came to us following our successful fabrication of the Auckland Zoo aviaries.

From concept to completion in late 2019, the end-result saw a stunning environment for both the birds and the public for viewing.

Two different meshes were used harmoniously in this project. One, a Woven Rope Mesh, sourced in New Zealand, and the second a Woven Steel Mesh from the USA. Large stainless-steel cables for tensioning.
