THE CHALLENGE – PROVIDE OUTDOOR SHELTER THAT ADDS AESTHETIC VALUE TO LANDMARK HOSPITALITY VENUE
Situated on the shores of beautiful Hamilton Lake in the North Island city of Hamilton, New Zealand, The Verandah is a premier café and function center.
Its contemporary steel and glass architecture capitalizes on the picturesque setting to provide guests with excellent views of the lake.
The Verandah wanted to extend dining options and provide entrance shelter for guests with a stylish deck canopy. The key challenge was to insure the canopy addition complemented the venue’s architecture, ideally making the total structure even more attractive from both the outside and inside.
THE SOLUTION – TRANSLUCENT MEMBRANE ROOF THAT PROVIDES AN ELEGANT CONNECTION TO THE OUTDOORS
Structurflex created an elegant canopy that offers an architectural handshake between outdoors and indoors. The high translucency of the white coated PES membrane allows the transmission of natural light, while also achieving an effective block of UV rays. The canopy’s glue-laminated wooden support structure provides the ideal transition from the modern steel and glass prismatic structure of the venue to the tree-fringed lake frontage.
The end result has exceeded everyone’s expectations. The design team, local authorities and Hamilton community have all expressed a high level of satisfaction with the outcome.
