Wildbase Central Energy Recovery Centre – Palmerston North

Wildbase Recovery Centre was the initiative of the  Palmerston North City Council, in 2013 for the  design of an aviary complex called WildBase Recovery, designed to house birds recovering from treatment at the nearby Massey University WildBase veterinary hospital, whilst allowing some public viewing of these and other native birds.  A company called Studio Hanson Roberts (based in the USA) for our landscape and aviary design, but they were interested in using local materials and know-how where possible when it comes to construction.  Palmerston North City Council came to us company as the fabricators of the Auckland Zoo aviaries.

From concept to completion was late 2019 – a very specific design, manufacture and design produced a stunning environment for both the birds and the public for viewing.

We used two different meshes on this project – one a Woven Rope Mesh – sourced in New Zealand and Woven Steel Mesh from the USA – with large stainless steel cables for tensioning.
