The Pridelands Escarpment marks a significant milestone as part of Auckland Zoo’s 2014-2024 Master Plan, symbolising the Zoo's dedication to environmental education, conservation, and the creation of dynamic natural learning spaces. This project underscores Auckland Zoo’s role in both local and international conservation efforts, providing an immersive experience that connects visitors with the wildlife and environments they are working to protect.

In this habitat, visitors can enjoy the dual experience of witnessing animals in close proximity while also appreciating the vast, rugged landscape that mirrors the natural environment of Africa’s savannahs. The layout and design allow for an enriching visitor journey, where human interaction with the animals is balanced with awe-inspiring views of the expansive escarpment. With every step, visitors engage in the intricate details of the animal habitats, discovering both the fauna and flora in settings that replicate natural ecosystems.

The Pridelands area, home to iconic species such as giraffes, zebras, and ostriches, brings the African plains to Auckland, providing a diverse experience that fosters a deeper understanding of animal behaviour and the conservation efforts being made to protect their natural habitats. In line with the zoo’s broader conservation mission, Pridelands educates visitors on the importance of preserving these species and their ecosystems, reflecting Auckland Zoo’s ongoing commitment to wildlife protection and community engagement.
