Oh Calcutta, a beloved restaurant nestled in the heart of Parnell, has been a culinary cornerstone for over 30 years. Owners Meena and Anand have continuously delivered outstanding service and impeccable North Indian cuisine for locals and visitors alike, earning the restaurant a reputation as one of New Zealand’s premier dining destinations. Oh Calcutta has achieved significant recognition, including being the first and only Indian restaurant in New Zealand to receive the prestigious Mobius Media Award. Their accolades extend internationally, with honours such as a Silver Award at the NYC Festival and being ranked among the top 10% of restaurants worldwide on TripAdvisor in 2020/21. Locally, the restaurant also earned the distinction of being ranked 8th best restaurant in Central Auckland for 2020/21.

Oh Calcutta approached us to solve an acoustic challenge in their dining space, where the combination of timber floors and ceiling created excessive noise and echo during peak service times. Our solution was to design, fabricate, and install a custom acoustic membrane using our AcoustiCeil system. This acoustic solution significantly reduced unwanted reverberations, ensuring a more pleasant dining atmosphere. Moreover, the membrane was carefully integrated with the restaurant’s aesthetic, remaining visually unobtrusive and blending seamlessly with the existing décor, enhancing both guest comfort and staff efficiency.
