We were tasked with delivering a custom solution that combines advanced acoustic performance with a visually striking design.

Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre, also known as Metro Sports, is a premier venue in Christchurch which required a sophisticated ceiling system that could handle the unique acoustic demands of its expansive indoor spaces. Our approach involved designing, engineering, and installing a 5,000 square meter rigid custom panel ceiling system, similar in feel to a scaled-up version of traditional office acoustic tiles. Each panel, measuring up to 5m x 9m, was meticulously crafted to meet the project's rigorous standards.

Our solution incorporated a premier acoustic PVC for the bottom layer of the panels. This material was selected for its superior sound absorption properties, which are essential for controlling acoustics within the facility. The top layer utilized a stronger PVC membrane, chosen for its durability and function as a plenum barrier.

The fabrication process involved creating a unique extrusion system which mitigated the effects of SCC, to support the dual PVC skins. This custom system was essential for maintaining the panels' rigidity and uniformity. On-site, our team faced the challenge of installing 150 panels up to 20 meters above ground. Using birdcage scaffolding, we achieved precise alignment and tensioning of each panel, ensuring a flawless finish.

Despite facing delays due to COVID-19 and significant cost increases from inflation, our team remained committed to overcoming these challenges. The installation process was meticulously managed to align with the project’s high standards, resulting in a stunning ceiling that enhances the facility's acoustic performance and visual appeal.
