The Quail Roost Transit Village project in Miami, Florida, is a notable example of combining practical infrastructure with public art to enrich the urban environment. Designed to enhance the visual appeal of a multi-level parking garage, the project aimed to transform an otherwise utilitarian structure into a meaningful and engaging part of the community. Using Structurflex’s FlexFacades system, the exterior of the garage was clad in tensioned mesh panels that served several purposes simultaneously. The facade system provided a 35% open ventilation rate, allowing for natural airflow essential to parking garage requirements, while also acting as a protective screen for the vehicles inside.
What distinguishes this project is the integration of screen-printed artwork directly onto the FlexFacade panels. The artwork, created by Miami-based artist Mark Fleuridor, brings vibrant color, narrative depth, and cultural resonance to the space. Fleuridor’s work, which often explores themes of identity, heritage, and family, was chosen to reflect and celebrate the surrounding community. This approach turned the parking structure into more than just a functional building; it became a canvas for public expression and an inviting visual feature in the urban landscape. The Quail Roost Transit Village stands as a compelling example of how architectural cladding and local art can merge to elevate public infrastructure into a place of beauty and community pride.
