BUILD
The project aimed to create a versatile outdoor sports facility for both tennis and basketball at the school, providing a much-needed covered area spanning 33 meters by 54.5 meters, totaling 1,825 square meters. The canopy was crafted from durable Serge Ferrari fabric, ensuring the longevity and robustness of the structure. Designed using a barrel vault system—commonly employed in schools and sports grounds—the canopy provides players with protection from the sun and rain while maintaining a light, airy atmosphere beneath.
As one of the oldest schools in the area, the challenge was navigating the complex underground utilities to avoid disruptions to power, drainage, and other essential services, preventing additional costs for the school board. Despite these challenges, the project was executed smoothly, allowing the school to remain fully functional throughout the construction process.
Since its completion, the canopy has become a valuable asset to the school, enabling a wide range of activities beyond sports. The space has hosted prize-giving ceremonies, social events, and community gatherings, transforming the area into a multifunctional venue.
Fabric Structures provided a complete design-and-build solution, managing everything from lighting and security to coordinating with contractors. The result was a seamlessly integrated facility that not only enhanced the school's sporting capabilities but also offered a dynamic, year-round space for the entire school community to enjoy.
