BUILD

The client’s directive was clear: to create a shelter that would protect commuters traveling between the local shopping center, bus station, and the train tracks. Previously, the exposed bridge left travelers vulnerable to the elements, but now, the entire bridge and stairways leading down to the tracks are fully covered, ensuring a much more comfortable and sheltered journey for all.

The design challenge lay in harmonizing the large, structural span of the bridge with the narrower ramps and connector canopies, requiring an aesthetic and functional solution. To introduce a modern, sophisticated element and enhance translucency, a special translucent fabric was selected for the bridge canopy, allowing light to flow through and create an airy feel while maintaining structural integrity.

Installation presented its own set of challenges, as work had to be carefully planned around the train schedules. Much of the construction was completed during off-peak hours, often at night, to avoid disruption to commuters. The large bridge canopy was fabricated in three pieces to enable an efficient, safe, and timely installation process.

The result exceeded expectations. The canopies now provide the much-needed shade and protection for commuters, while also giving the station a unique architectural identity that stands out in the area. The design has not only made the station more visually appealing but also increased the efficiency of pedestrian flow.

To enhance the aesthetic appeal and safety of the structure, up-lighting was installed to take full advantage of the fabric membrane's translucent qualities. This creates a soft, glowing effect at night, acting as both a safety feature and a visual beacon for the train station. The entire project spans over 250 meters, from the bridge across the rail corridor to the ramps leading down to the platforms.

In the end, the project successfully fulfilled its brief of providing shelter for commuters while enhancing the visual appeal of the local area. The unique design and innovative use of materials have been well received by both locals and commuters alike, creating a standout feature for the train station and making it a key landmark in the community.
