BUILD
The objective of this project was to design, fabricate, and install a striking fabric façade for a large carpark building in central Christchurch. As the carpark is situated in a district undergoing urban revitalisation, the architectural focus was to create a visually appealing yet cost-effective solution, elevating the structure beyond its utilitarian function.
This was far from a typical façade installation—the undulating design and intricate connection details added a level of complexity that demanded precision in both engineering and fabrication. Furthermore, the architect required that the fabric welds be perfectly symmetric to ensure the design’s elegance and cohesion. Achieving this level of detail required meticulous attention to both the aesthetic and structural components.
The result is a façade that not only distinguishes the carpark from other standard structures but also integrates seamlessly with the surrounding urban landscape. It has been praised by the architect, building owner, and the local community for its innovative design, transforming a functional building into an architectural feature that contributes to the city’s revitalisation efforts.
