BUILD

Our task was to deliver a sleek, floating conical structure above the glazed clubrooms of the Old Boys Collegians Cricket Club, creating an inviting, sheltered space with ample shade and a calm, pleasant internal environment. The design emphasized an architectural lightness, achieved through a single central column supporting cantilevered edge beams, all stabilized by prestressed stainless steel cables. These cables not only gave the structure its distinctive floating appearance but were also meticulously prestressed before and after installation to lock the system in place, allowing the removal of temporary supports. Continuous monitoring ensured structural integrity throughout the installation process.

The final result was a triumph in both form and function. The clubrooms gained a high-end architectural appeal, blending modern elegance with practicality. The interior, with its acoustic liner, offers a bright, warm, and welcoming atmosphere that enhances the overall experience for visitors. The structure successfully balances aesthetics with comfort, delivering an internal environment that is not only visually impressive but acoustically pleasing.

The architects had set ambitious visual challenges for the design, but these were met and exceeded with the unique conical structure. The innovative design breathes new life into this long-standing cricket club, providing a contemporary architectural statement that harmonizes with its heritage. The clubrooms now serve as a vibrant and inviting space, appealing to both the younger and older generations of club members, and establishing a new standard of excellence for community sports facilities.
