Tara Iti is a world-renowned golf course located near Mangawhai on the east coast of New Zealand. Opening in October 2022, this golf course, located along the scenic coastline of New Zealand's North Island, has quickly become known for its world-class design and stunning views, impeccable courses, and environmentally sensitive construction.

Recently we were engaged to design, fabricate, and install an architectural shade solution that not only provided functional shelter but also harmonised with the restrained, organic elegance of the existing clubhouse to which one edge of the structure is supported by. Our approach resulted in a playful yet graceful canopy, constructed with Serge Ferrari's Flexlight Lodge 6002 which has a textured, matte finish that mimics the look of natural fabrics. Designed to echo the essence of a quintessential New Zealand shade sail, the canopy elevates this concept with organic edges that mirror the natural undulations of the coastline it faces

Two graceful conical peaks serve as focal points, enhancing the visual appeal while maintaining a sense of lightness. The slim wooden support posts blend seamlessly into the environment, grounded but unobtrusive. To minimise the need for bulky support pillars, we extensively utilised cables, allowing the structure to maintain a clean, minimalist aesthetic. This design preserves uninterrupted sightlines across the sand dunes and out to the ocean, creating a harmonious balance between built form and nature.
