Marsden Cove Fishing Club is a popular and active fishing community located in the picturesque Marsden Cove Marina, near Whangārei, New Zealand. The club is a gathering point for passionate anglers of all levels, from seasoned fishermen to beginners, who come together to enjoy the vibrant fishing opportunities the area has to offer. Known for its excellent fishing grounds, including access to the rich waters of the Whangārei Harbour and the expansive Pacific Ocean, the club provides members with opportunities to participate in regular fishing competitions, social events, and educational sessions.

We were approached to design and install a canopy for the café and bar facilities, located in the scenic Marsden Cove Marina. The club was looking to extend their usable outdoor space by adding a shelter over their deck to provide protection from both rain and sun, allowing members and visitors to enjoy the marina views comfortably in all weather conditions.

Taking inspiration from the sleek, modern form of the surrounding buildings, we wanted to ensure that the canopy would complement the architecture without obstructing sightlines or detracting from the natural beauty of the marina. To achieve this, we opted for a simple, slightly arched awning that seamlessly extends from the side of the building. The canopy is supported by slim columns that blend into the design, ensuring minimal visual impact while offering maximum functionality.

The result is a stylish, unobtrusive structure that enhances the outdoor experience for the club’s members, providing year-round protection while maintaining clear, uninterrupted views of the stunning marina setting.
